Egypt 2007 a huge success!!!

Girls On Tour have just returned from a successful first trip to Egypt and Dubai. Starting off in Alexandria the girls enjoyed 2 exciting days exploring the “Pearl of the Mediterranean”, its people and its history including the Roman Theatre and the Palace of King Farouk. After a drive of 220kms along the desert road we arrived in Cairo and to our first glimpse of the Great Pyramids, the reaction was……WOW!

The amazement continued with a full day tour of the Pyramids of Giza, The Great Sphinx, The Step Pyramid of Saqqara and the Old Capital, Memphis. The girls were blown away by the grand scale of the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx and commented that “you really must see this with your own eyes”.

Next we flew to Luxor to join Radamis II our cruiser for a 4 day Nile cruise of wonderment, leisure and luxury. We visited the Temples of Karnak, Luxor, Kom Ombo, Philae and Horus as well as the West Bank including the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El Bahri. The beautiful paintings and hieroglyphic text still visible in these temples are a sight to behold with some of the original colours still remaining.

In Aswan we visited the High Dam and flew to Abu Simbel and visited the Temple of Ramesses II with its four statues 20 metres high. Constructed in 13th Century BC and moved in the 1960’s when Lake Nasser began to rise after the Aswan High Dam was completed.

As well as taking in all the history that Egypt has to offer, the girls enjoyed the relaxation that cruising the Nile has to offer such as sunsets from the Sun Deck, wonderful meals, beauty therapy and massage and wonderful friendly staff.

Life On The Nile

The leisurely pace of the cruiser allowed us to view life on the Nile as we slowly made our way along Egypt’s lifeblood. From the decks we could see farmers tending the fields or moving their crops on donkeys, children frolicking in the river, fishermen netting their catch, women going about their daily chores and buffalo wading in the water after a hard days work.

Life On The Nile

Back in Cairo we saw papyrus being made the way it was back in pharaonic days and enjoyed a spectacular night under the stars at the Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids.

At the Cairo Museum we saw the treasures of Tutankhamen including the Gold Mask and the outer coffin which is 112kg of solid gold.

Apart from the treasures of Tutankhamen a highlight of the Museum was the Mummy room where we gazed upon the faces of the Pharaohs including Ramesses II and Queen Hatshepsut, the only woman to rule as Pharaoh. What a sobering experience to look into the eyes of such imposing, important rulers who have been preserved for thousands of years due to the mummification skills of the ancient Egyptians.

We said goodbye to Egypt, “the old” and flew to Dubai to experience “the new” in this amazing city that has been built on nothing but desert. The Burj Al Arab is a magnificent site to behold standing 321 metres above the Dubai coastline and rated as the best hotel in the world.

Burj al Arab Dubai

A Dhow Boat cruise along Dubai Creek is a great way to enjoy the local cuisine and take in the nightlights of this amazing city. A visit to Dubai would not be complete without a trip to the Emirates Mall where they have built a snow field inside the shopping mall. Only in Dubai!

Ski Dubai

For our last night in Dubai it was out into the desert for the Desert Safari including 4WD dune bashing, camel rides and dinner under the stars. Definitely a night to remember and a fantastic way to finish off our Girls On Tour Arabian Adventure.
