We will stay in and explore Colombo, Anuradhapura, Sigriya, Negembo, Kandy and Galle and take a safari through Yala National Park in search of leopards, elephants and crocodiles. A scenic train journey, The Temple of the Tooth, the walled city of Galle and the sprawling tea plantations are just some of the highlights.

Today is a free day to relax or explore the city. With amazing cuisine and luxury hotels, Colombo is earning itself a well-deserved reputation as a top destination for travellers. (B,D)
A leisurely city tour of Colombo including the old fort district, passing by the President’s house and the Old Dutch Hospital, now a shopping and restaurant complex. We’ll walk through Pettah market and pass the Red Mosque, on of the oldest on the island. Other points of interest include the old St John’s Fish Market which is now a gold souk, the old parliament, the sprawling lawns of Galle Face Green and Gangaramaya temple. We will visit the National Museum with its wide display of art, statues and colonial remains before returning to our hotel. (B,D)
A morning excursion to the Negombo Fish Market and afternoon transfer to Anuradhapura. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore or relax. (B)
A full day touring today including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Anuradhapura located in the north central part of the island. This grand city was the first capital during the period 6th century BC to 10th century BC and was the centre of the island’s Buddhist civilisation. We will also visit the ancient remains of Mihintale, a sacred place which is regarded as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. (B,D)
Today we explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Polonnaruwa. It is the second most ancient of Sri Lanka’s kingdoms and was first declared the capital city in the 11th century. We will also enjoy a local village experience at Hiriwanduna including lunch. (B,L,D)
This morning we will set off for Sigiriya, also known as ‘Lion Rock’. A spectacular pillar of rock is visible from miles around and the site sits on an extinct volcano. Please note the hike to the top is steep and will take a couple of hours depending on fitness levels. In the evening we will enjoy a visit to the ancient Ritigala Monastery. (B,D)
On our way to Kandy today we will stop to visit the Dambulla cave temples and the Matale spice gardens. Kandy is set around a lake surrounded by green hills and is Sri Lanka’s second largest city. (B,D)
After breakfast enjoy a tour of Kandy including a walking tour by the lake visiting the bustling local market and a stop at the British Garrison Cemetery, which from 1822-1873 was the final resting place for resident British nationals. A visit to the beautiful Peredeniya Botanic Gardens surrounded on three sides by the Mahaweli River is a pleasant experience. In the afternoon we will enjoy a show of traditional Sri Lankan music, dance and drumming before our visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the most sacred temple in the whole of Sri Lanka. We will travel by train through the hill country which is said to be one of the most picturesque rail journeys in the world! You’ll journey through dark tunnels on winding tracks, past the beautiful Devon & St Clair waterfalls to the home of the famous Ceylon Tea. On arrival at Nanu Oya Railway station we travel by road to the tea plantation to visit and learn more about the tea making process and different grades of tea. Our final destination today is Nuwara Eliya where we will overnight. (B,D)
Our drive today will take us towards the south coast and on the way we will visit the city of Ella. Our final destination today is Yala National Park one of the largest national parks in the country and home to elephants, spotted deer, sambar, wild buffalo, jackals, mongoose and crocodiles. The park boasts one of the highest densities of leopards in the world but they are elusive creatures so any sighting is sure to be a highlight. On arrival the rest of the day is at leisure. (B,D)
Enjoy an early morning game drive around Yala National Park. You will be picked up early and proceed by jeep to the park entrance. We will return to the hotel for breakfast and relax before heading out once more in the afternoon for another game drive. (B,D)
We farewell Yala today and drive to Weligama visiting the Mulkirigala Temple on the way. The afternoon is yours to relax and unwind as we arrive at the ‘sandy village’ of Weligama. (B,D)
After breakfast this morning we will take a whale and dolphin watching excursion in search of Sperm and Blue Whales and Spinner and Bottlenose Dolphins. In the evening a walking tour of Galle Fort which offers the best preserved example of a European built fortified city in Asia. It was built by the Dutch during the 17th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll the winding streets of this charming town and discover its colonial buildings, grand fort walls and numerous boutiques and cafés. We will do a walking tour of Galle Fort wandering along the ramparts and will pass the lighthouse and the old Portuguese harbour and stop to see some of the many colonial era buildings, including the Dutch Reformed Church, the Anglican All Saints Church and the former house of the Dutch governor, built in 1684 and now the luxurious Amangalla Hotel. This afternoon we will enjoy an amazing experience with one of the locals with a cooking demonstration where we will visit the market and choose vegetables and spices and get some valuable tips on Sri Lankan cooking and cook up our farewell dinner. (B,D)
After breakfast we drive back to Colombo where we have the coach at our disposal to do some last minute sightseeing or shopping before our departure tomorrow for home. (B,D)
After check out we drive to Colombo airport for our departure for home via Singapore. (B)
