Arrive and check in independently to the Ibis Brisbane Airport Hotel at your leisure. Meet up with fellow travellers in the evening to start our SEQ Getaway.
Enjoy breakfast and late checkout from the hotel. From here we make our way to the family owned and run Sirromet Winery in Mount Cotton. Enjoy a tour “behind the scenes” of the state-of-the-art winery facility, hearing the tale of an Australian family who created one of the most famous wine brands in Qld, concluding with a private wine tasting of 6 Sirromet wines. Your coach will continue to transport you to the Seaworld Nara Resort on the Gold Coast.
Enjoy a free day to explore all that the Gold Coast has to offer. Included is a day entry into Sea World where you can explore the Penguin Encounter as a prelude to your Antarctica flight and to enjoy all the shows and rides. Early evening, put your “cowboy boots” on, making our way to the Gold Coast’s best dinner and show. Australian Outback Spectacular’s “Heartland” is a stirring tale of life on the land in an amazing arena.
Your bus transfer will pick you up after a leisurely breakfast, making your first stop at Australia’s Tallest Building – the Q1 SkyPoint Observation Deck which offers panoramic views of the Gold Coast. It is 270m above sea level, located on top of the Q1 building in Surfers Paradise. We then continue into the hinterland to the beautiful Canungra Valley Vineyards to enjoy some lunch and a glass of wine. There is also an Alpaca farm at the winery, so wander over to feed them and look in their gift shop. After lunch we drive up the Lamington Plateau, enjoying the vista towards the mountains in the West. You will understand why it is called “The Scenic Rim”. Upon arrival at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat you will be welcomed with afternoon tea and given time to settle into your room for the next 3 nights. We finish the day with a sunset experience at a remote location including beer and wine, followed by dinner.
Start the day with an early morning bird walk, followed by breakfast. Around 9am, we take a 4WD Billy Tea, damper and history tour. This afternoon if you’re still feeling energetic, enjoy a guided walk to visit Python Rock allowing views of Moran Falls. Upon return, we enjoy Afternoon Tea and an Audio visual presentation on the Stinson rescue. To finish our day we enjoy dinner, before heading out to see the Glow Worms.
If you enjoyed the early morning bird walk yesterday (or missed it) you have the opportunity to do it again. We have another day full of adventure starting with a Wildlife encounter, morning tea, then a guided walk to the Tree Top Walk. This is a spectacular elevated walkway through the beautiful middle and upper canopies of the rainforest. It descends gradually to the lower canopy and following rock pools, waterfalls, a butterfly lookout and local history enclosure. There are sheltered rest areas along the way until reaching the amazing Cantilever. The 40 metre long span soars 30 metres above the valley, with spectacular views over the creek and rainforest canopy below. Finally, the walk returns along the rainforest floor back to the Visitors Centre. After lunch we take another 4WD tour to either Luke’s Bluff or Duck Creek lookouts finishing with an audio visual presentation on nature at O’Reilly’s.
Once again this is your last opportunity to enjoy the early morning bird walk, before packing our bags, have breakfast and meet your bus. Before leaving Mt Tamborine, we stop off at the Gallery Walk, where there are over 70 specialty shops in one block! Our accommodation tonight is at the vibrant Ibis Brisbane Airport Hotel, with stunning views of Moreton Bay and Brisbane’s surrounds. You can do some plane spotting from your room, as you dream about your flight over Antarctica tomorrow.
Experience a completely different view of Antarctica from above on board the Chimu Adventures, chartered Qantas Dreamliner.
You will have a unique perspective of ‘The Great White Continent ‘ from the air giving you a greater appreciation of Antarctica’s size and scale compared to ship-based expeditions. A team of Antarctica Experts from Chimu
Adventures will be on board to explain the continent’s landscapes and history as you fly over Antarctica. Generally, it takes around three hours of flying time south of Australia before we start to see scattered icebergs and shortly after we normally reach the continent itself, where, weather permitting, we’ll get to take in the dramatic mountains, glaciers and frozen landscapes of Antarctica. For the regular Antarctica flights we will spend 3 – 4 hours flying over the Antarctic continent and weather permitting we’ll hope to reduce the flying altitude to approximately 20,000 feet to give improved viewing of some areas. On each departure date we carefully consider a number of factors, including weather, cloud cover and ice conditions to help provide you the best viewing experience on the day. Working with Qantas, we have 20 different potential flight paths to choose from, all of which have a variety of interesting features to see.
This morning after breakfast we say our goodbyes and go home with great memories of the incredible experiences we’ve had and the amazing things we’ve seen and done over the past week.
